SAT ranked among 2008 MIX GLOBAL 100 COMPOSITE RANKING of Top Microfinance Institutions
Based on the data published in MIX Market, the MIX Global Composite Ranking highlights the 100 leading microfinance institutions that are profitable (sustainable) and top balanced achievers of high outreach and low transaction costs whilst being transparent which are considered to be goals to be pursued by microfinance institutions. To be among the MIX Global 100 Composite Rankings is a distinction in the microfinance industry that microfinance service providers all over the world aspire to achieve. Such is the achievement of SAT. Using the 2007 performance data from a total of 971 microfinance institutions from all over the world, a sample of 652 microfinance institutions which were operationally self sufficient and have attained the maximum operational self sufficiency since 2005 was obtained. The sampled institutions were made up of a range of service providers from banks and other regulated financial institutions to Credit Unions and NGOs. These microfinance institutions served over 67 million diverse clients and held over USD 35 billion in loans and 65 million microfinance clients with over USD 15 billion in deposits. The 652 microfinance institutions were individually ranked on each of the indicators for the three categories of performance– Outreach, Efficiency and Transparency. The rankings on a set of indicators for each category of performance were then averaged to obtain the rankings on the respective categories of performance. The rankings of each microfinance institution in the three categories of performance are then averaged for the composite ranking of that microfinance institution. The composite rankings thus offer a view into the top 100 well rounded leading microfinance service providers worldwide.
